The Pope will not celebrate Mass scheduled for this Sunday on Grandparents’ Day

Pope Francis continues the rehabilitation process after the colon surgery on July 4, so he will not be able to celebrate the First World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly on Sunday in San Pedro.

He had planned to celebrate Mass this Sunday at the Vatican, but will be replaced by Archbishop Rino Fisichella.

The benches will be occupied by grandparents and the elderly accompanied by their family and friends.

“Hundreds of people will attend who have spent the last 16 months in isolation and who are taking to the streets for the first time. Seeing them together in St. Peter’s Basilica on Sunday will in itself be a party ”.

Pope Francis instituted this World Day a few months ago to invite the elderly and grandparents to be active in society, and to educate their children and grandchildren to be affectionate with them.
