Maurice Piat, Cardinal Bishop of Port-Louis in Mauritius, turns 80 and loses the right to enter the conclave.
Pope Francis made him a cardinal in November 2016.
Cardinal Piat hosted Francis when the Pope traveled to Mauritius in September 2019. There they celebrated Mass together and the cardinal thanked him on behalf of Catholics.
Maurice Piat also chairs the Indian Ocean Episcopal Conference.
When he turns 80, he loses the right to vote in an eventual conclave. Therefore, of the current 221 cardinals, only 123 are electors.
