Remembering Carlo Acutis on his 30th birthday: “It’s hard not to inspire you”

Carlo Acutis was beatified in October 2020 and became the first millennial to have this recognition. This May 3 he had turned 30, if the leukemia had not taken his life at 15.

And the surprising thing is that despite his short life, Carlo Acutis inspires millions of people, especially young people.

“What made him extraordinary was his way of living the ordinary. He confessed at least once a week. I tried to go to daily Mass and receive the Eucharist frequently. And it was in this devotion to the Eucharist, through the example of Saint Francis of Assisi, that I believe the secret of his holiness arises ”.

Michael Lichens is editor of the Catholic Exchange and has coordinated the work of priest Will Conquer “A Millennial in Paradise.” It is a book about Carlo Acutis and his way of holiness.

“Compare Blessed Acutis with a painting by Caravaggio found in Rome,“ ‘The Vocation of Saint Matthew’. He painted Christ as a 1st century Jew. But the room and the characters follow the style of the time of Caravaggio, which is Renaissance, uniforms like those of the Swiss Guard. “

In the book on Carlo Acutis it is explained that Caravaggio painted it this way to show the relevance of the teachings of Jesus in each age. That is why, as the life of Carlo Acutis shows, God seeks people where they are.

In “A Millennial in Paradise”, Will Conquer explains the story of Carlo Acutis. For example, how his passion for technology and his love for the Eucharist led him to create a website about Eucharistic miracles.

“It’s hard not to inspire you. It’s hard not to help you say, how can I be a better Catholic, like this guy did? How do I get it? That was what led the author of the book to write it. The original work is in French, but it is already in English. The idea is to make Carlo Acutis known to more people, to show him as a new friend who can help them on the spiritual path ”.

The book is supported by testimonies from friends and family of Carlo Acutis. With small anecdotes, they show how this teenager lived the virtues, and how today’s Christians can follow in his footsteps.
