Pope’s Prayer Intention in May: That finances are not pure speculation

In the “Pope Video” for the month of May, Francis prays for the world of finance in this time of pandemic. He regrets that “the real economy, the one that creates jobs, is in crisis,” and financial markets have never been as inflated as they are now.

“How far the world of big finance is from most people’s lives!” Says the Pope. Alert that if finances “are not regulated, they become pure speculation encouraged by some monetary policies.” An unsustainable and dangerous situation.

Francisco emphasizes the word “speculation.” He says that it must be regulated to prevent the poor from continuing to pay consequences.

Finally, he asks to pray that “finances are instruments of service, instruments to serve the people and take care of the common home.”
