Ghana to bid a final farewell to former President Jerry John Rawlings in January 2021 as the date for his burial comes to lite.
A requiem mass will be said on 26th January 2021 at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Adabraka, Accra between 9 am- 11 am for the repose of his soul.
When a Catholic dies, mourners are expected to pray for the deceased loved one’s entrance into heaven. The church believes in the eventual resurrection of the body and the reuniting of the body with the soul at Christ’s second coming.
A Communiqué issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry to the international community and diplomatic missions stated that the deceased will be laid in state from January 24 to 26 at the Foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) from 9 am to 5 pm each day.
Jerry John Rawlings, born 22 June 1947 in Accra, Gold Coast, is a Ghanaian former air force officer and politician who became the first president of the fourth republic of Ghana. He held several international appointments after his political career including the AU High Representative for Somalia.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
